Balnakelly distillery

Highland single malt Scotch whisky

Balnakelly House (also spelled Balnakeilly) is a listed mansion uphill and north of Pitlochry and Moulin that stands to this day. It was not uncommon in the 19th century for a house like this to have a brewery and/or distillery on its grounds.

Balnakelly History

Being attached to an estate did not guarantee a distillery long life. Alexander Campbell was licensed to distil at Balnakelly from 1817-19 but like so many others was driven under by draconian taxes and legislation.

Timeline

  • 1817 Alexander Campbell and Co. opens the distillery
  • 1819 The distillery closes
