Blended Malt Scotch Whisky
Spice King is one of the three core blended malts in the Wemyss Malts portfolio alongside Peat Chimney and The Hive – the names of which represent each brand’s flavour profile.
As Spice King’s name suggests, the Highland-style blended malt is all about warming spicy flavours derived from 16 different distillery characters. The current make up comprises a west coast Island malt blended with other Highland, Lowland, Speyside and Islay malts, the latter of which imparts a slightly salty and smoky finish.
Spice King is bottled as a no-age-statement at 46% abv, as well as a limited edition cask strength version.
Spice King History
Introduced in 2005 as a 5-year-old at 40% abv, Spice King gradually evolved into an 8-year-old, which up until 2015 was the core expression from the brand, supported by a limited edition 12-year-old.
Blaming difficulty sourcing stocks of aged Scotch whiskies, brand owner Wemyss Malts replaced Spice King 8-year-old with an NAS version bottled at 46% abv.
In 2016 it also launched a Batch Strength limited edition (Batch 001) at 56% abv.
