T&A McClelland Profile

Glasgow-based blending and export company T&A McClelland had a range of brands in its portfolio prior to joining Stanley P Morrison (later to become Morrison Bowmore Distillers) in the 1970s. These included Clan Roy, a primarily no-age-statement blended whisky that, in its history, had been bottled at 40%, 41%, and 43% abv. There was also a special Clanroy decanter that contained a 25-year-old blended whisky bottled at 43% abv. Other brands included Brae Dew, Kings Pride, and RR, a five-year-old blended malt.

In 1986 Morrison Bowmore Distillers launched a new range of single malt whiskies under the McClelland brand name. These now include a non-descript Highland, Islay, Speyside, and Lowland, all bottled at 40% abv.

T&A McClelland History

In 1817, brothers Thomas and Andrew McClelland founded Bladnoch distillery near Wigtown, Scotland. They were both farmers and so it is possible that the distillery was originally a part-time venture for the late autumn and winter months. The brothers also undertook whisky blending and export from Glasgow premises.

In 1911, Dunville & Co Ltd. acquired the company and ran it as a subsidiary under the name T&A McClelland’s Ltd. In 1970, that subsidiary was purchased by Stanley P Morrison (which later became Morrison Bowmore Distillers). In 2014, Morrison Bowmore was sold to Beam Suntory.
