J&J Hunter Profile

The small Belfast wine and spirits merchant is best known in whisky circles for its bottlings of Glenfiddich single malt. While own label bottlings of the Speyside distillery are extremely rare, J&J Hunter produced a small number of single cask expressions which were distilled in 1964 and matured in first-fill Sherry butts.

J&J Hunter History

J&J Hunter was incorporated on 4 September 1924 with the directors named as merchants James Hunter of Lisburn Road and Thomas Donnelly of Coates Street, Belfast. The company was set up for the business of dealing in all manner of wine, beer, spirits and consumables.

By 1987, the shareholders were James Thomas Donnelly, John Nugent Donnelly, and Bryansburn Holdings Ltd.

J&J Hunter was taken over in 2016 by John Nugent Donnelly and Whitecliff Holdings Ltd., which itself is owned by other members of the Donnelly Family and also owns the Whitecliff Inn in County Antrim.
